Irina is the second short film coproduced with T.r.a.s.h. and MMXI. The film was first screened at the Cinedans Dance on Screen 2013 filmfestival in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
"True stories merge with an illusionary world, in which women can take on every identity to survive. The spectator watches them closely."
In this short film we have explored the frontier where reality seamlessly blends into imagination.
The shoot is explicitly not scripted and the performers are directed only before the shoot, at which point they are on their own.
This creates a new layer of pseudo-reality that exists somewhere between reality and cinematic illusion. Only in the final stage of the production will this reality reveal itself definitively.
While the performers are not aware of their audience, the latter gets to witness everything from up very close.
Irina was financially supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten, Provincie Noord-Brabant and Gemeente Tilburg.
